Social Recreation
The Social Recreation program at DesertArc serves children, adults, and seniors. Social recreation services are designed to be a community integration program in a 1:2 and 1:3 setting (ratio). Typical activities are movies, shopping, eating out, parks, and trips to places of interest such as the annual National Date Festival, Moreno Valley Air Show, Joshua Tree National Park and Disneyland. Over 65% percent of clients are also involved in Special Olympics. Special Olympics offers, basketball, bocce, bowling, golf, snowshoeing, softball, speed skating, swimming, tennis, and track and field.
Another component of the social recreation program is on-site activities. Typically, a social function will be held once a month. Events such as a Valentine’s Day dance, Halloween carnival, Easter egg hunt, Cinco de Mayo celebration, Christmas party, and annual pool party are just some of the fun recreation opportunities DesertArc’s clients are able to enjoy. These programs are funded by donations and are open to all clients of DesertArc.
