Charities Look to Gain Weight While Helping Others Lose It
A new charity event and community health initiative challenges contestants to shed excess pounds while raising money for charity. If you are familiar with the popular TV show Biggest Loser, you will know what this challenge is all about.
The Desert’s Biggest Loser is a contest pitting two teams of individuals who are looking to lose 30 pounds or more against one another in a weight-loss challenge and charity drive. The contest is enrolling participants until the end of January 2010 and will commence the competition mid-February 2010.
While going through 10 weeks of physical training, nutritional re-education, and emotional support classes, the contestants will be earning money for their respective charities; either ACT for MS or DesertArc.
This is an opportunity for local businesses and Coachella Valley residents to get involved in improving the health of our community.
Each week, contestants who lose the most weight or earn the most money for their charity are each given prizes donated from local businesses. In the finally of the 10 week competition, both the Biggest Loser and the Biggest Earner will receive a grand prize.
While the contestants are losing weight and earning money for their charity, our community is offered a look into the struggles so many Americans have to overcome daily living with obesity as well as illuminating the incredible dedication and sacrifice the contestants will go through to loose weight.
Locally-owned gym Next Level Fitness (Palm Desert) has committed to donating the personal trainers and it’s facility for the duration of the contest and Live Well Clinic (La Quinta) will be providing the nutritional education and medical oversight.
Please contact Live Well Clinic 760-771-5970 or info@livewellclinic.org if you are interested in being a contestant or a participating business of The Desert’s Biggest Loser.
